Skycaddie SG5 Golf GPS Review

Why use the SkyCaddie SG5? Well, one of the greatest assets a golf pro has is a professional caddie who knows the course like the back of their hands. The caddie knows all the yardage on the course to any other point on the course.

Skycaddie SG5 Golf GPS reviewWith the SkyCaddie SG5 you’ll have the same level of information that a golf tour pro has access to. If you don’t have this type of information in advance it could take you weeks or months to learn a course well enough to play it like a professional. That’s just not a realistic option in the real world.

Better Accuracy = Better Golf

That’s where golf GPS systems come into play and the SkyCaddie SG5 is one of the finest examples of this type of technology. The entire SkyCaddie range utilizes survey-quality range finding technology so you’re going to get yardage that is exactly right for the next shot you take.

With the built-in IntelliGreen feature you can view various targets on the green in exact detail and get advance warning on any hidden curves or tiers that could obstruct your play.

Only a professional caddie or personal in-depth knowledge of the course can give you this type of detail ahead of time. You’re shown exactly what each course hazard is and you can then work out the best way to avoid it.

The SkyCaddie SG5 itself is small enough to fit into the palm of your hand but not so small that you wind up losing it every time you put it away. The size of the unit means that it’s a little better suited to fitting into a jacket pocket rather than in your trousers. That doesn’t mean it’s overly bulky but just not as tiny as some other golf GPS devices.

SkyCaddie SG5 – Ready For The Elements

Using the SkyCaddie SG5 in pretty much any light condition is a no-brainer because of the automatic backlighting that powers the vibrant color screen. When you tie that together with the water resistant casing (not waterproof so don’t go dropping it in ponds) you have a golf GPS unit that can be used in even some of the worst weather conditions.

With a SkyCaddie subscription you get to access data on golf courses all over the world and you can change courses with your subscription as often as you like. Not only that but you get regular software and feature upgrades as and when they become available.

This is just part of the excellent customer service you can expect from the manufacturers of the Skycaddie SG5 – they take pride in their products and do their best to keep their customers golfing happily.

SkyCaddie sg5 Golf GPS User Reviews

“I have had my unit for 3 seasons now and it is incredible. The accuracy has been amazing and often knows better than the courses own direction. It has had every course I have gone to play except one. It is unfortunate to have to pay a yearly fee but this gives me security that there is something in it for them to keep the courses upto date.”

“This is the best thing in golf since round balls. It will cut your score (no lie) and I’m the world’s worst golfer. It makes the game fun, fast and its easy to use. “

“It works great. The color screen is very easy to read in the sun. The charge lasts longer than I expected, usually three full rounds at least. My only complaint is that it’s a little bigger than some of it’s competitors. You can’t slip it into your pocket to take a swing. But I’ve used it for six months and it’s performed flawlessly.”

SkyCaddie SG5 Summary

You might be tempted to try a cheaper product but remember you get what you pay for when it comes to golf GPS systems and SkyCaddie is at the top of the food chain in that regard. If you want to take your golf game to the next level then the SkyCaddie Sg5 is a more than worthwhile investment.

Having said that, if you don’t want to pay an annual fee, and like the idea of taking your product straight out of the box and onto the course, bypassing the need to hook it up to your computer, then check out the Garmin gps products, particularly the Garmin G6, which is my personal favourite.

So to sum it up, SkyCaddie allows you to play better golf by knowing the exact yardage you need to play for every single hole. That’s the kind of advantage that puts you ahead of pretty much anyone else on the course that day.

The only problem you might having in using your SkyCaddie SG5 golf gps is that all your golfing buddies are going to want to use it too!
