The IZZO Swami 1500 golf GPS is an entry level, yet feature rich GPS unit that will take away all the guesswork out of measuring the distance to the green. Instead of relying on wild guesses and ballpark estimates, the Swami 1500 gives you the distance to the front, back and middle of the green. It costs around $70.

Izzo Swami 1500 Golf GPS – Simple, No Fuss, Easy To Use

The IZZO Swami 1500 has a functional design. Unlike expensive GPS units that cost upwards of $300 and feature large touchscreens, the Swami 1500 is simple, easy to use, with a small screen and 4 large buttons.

While some expensive golf GPS units can have an excruciatingly steep learning curve (did someone say SkyCaddie SGX?), using the Swami is a breeze and you will get the hang of it within minutes.

Izzo Swami 1500 Golf GPS Features

The IZZO Swami 1500 golf GPS unit comes with access to 12,000 United States course. Pay your $9.99 annual fee, hook up the unit to your computer via the included USB cable and load the relevant course. The unit can store up to 10 courses at a time.

The Swami will automatically recognize the course as soon as you power it up. Once you’re actually playing golf, the Swami will tell you thedistance to the back, front and middle of the green in real time.

In terms of technology, the IZZO Swami 1500 works on a very simple GPS engine that uses the Insta-Lok technology to calculate distance to the green.

 Battery Charge and Dimensions

You’ll get 12 hours of running time on each charge of the rechargeable lithium ion battery, which is more than adequate for a couple of afternoons at the course. You can also charge it from your PC with the USB cable.

The unit is small enough to fit into any pocket easily and measures only 3.75 x 1 x 2 inches. Carrying it around the golf course is easy with the included belt clip.

IZZO Swami 1500 Golf GPS – The Not-So-Good Stuff…

On the downside, there are a couple of points. The USB/recharging port, for instance, is exposed. If you happen to get caught in the rain on the course, you will have to work hard to keep the unit dry, since the USB port can easily be damaged by water.

It’s a small point, but you have to manually change holes once you’ve sunk your putt, and are heading to the next tee. This is simply done with one press of a button.

Also, the Izzo Swami 1500 golf gps isn’t compatible with Mac computers, so you will need access to a PC.

Izzo Swami 1500 Golf GPS User Reviews

“I purchased the 1500 and it is very adequate, did what it claims. I like how the subscription works,$9.99 for as many courses as you want for a year (unit only stores 10 @ a time) but I usually play the same ones on regular bases and it doesn’t lose the courses when subscription expires. I compared it to other gps’s when playing and they were relatively close for the most part. The only thing I wish is that it changed holes automatically.”

“This GPS by IZZO Swami 1500 unit works very good. I wanted a simple but good one as I needed to be able to find what club needed from 130yards out or closer. It helps in longer yardage also, would tell other golfers about how good this unit is and that I got it on Amazon at a good price”

“Simply put, this is the best deal on an entry level golf gps out there. All it does is lock onto the satelites fast, recognize the course you are playing without any input from you, and tell you how far you are from the center, back or front of the green. It updates constantly as you move, and all you have to do is hit the ^ button after each hole, advancing it to the next one. The readout is large enough to see from quite a distance, so you can clip it to the cart when carts are allowed on the grass, but it’s more than small enough to fit comfortably in your pocket.”

The IZZO Swami 1500 golf gps can help reduce your scores, almost instantly. When you know the exact distance to the green, you can use the right clubs, and therefore, play the right shot. Instead of relying on yardstick markers, you will always know which club to use in which situation. An unlike a laser rangefinder, you can get a distance to the green even when you can’t see it.

All in all, the IZZO Swami 1500 golf gps is a terrific entry level unit. It gets the job done fast and easy, without any fuss. Obviously it doesn’t give you the colored maps and more detailed information found in some gps devices, but at $70 it represents serious value for money and if you haven’t used a golf GPS before, the Izzo Swami 1500 golf gps could be the perfect unit to start with.
